Position/Title: Information Assistant, Translator
Organization unit: United Nations Department of Public Information
Entry Date As soon as possible
Duration 6 months with the possibility of extension
Duty Station Baku, Azerbaijan
Duties and Responsibilities:
Information Assistant, Translator will be responsible for the
following duties:
" Performs necessary translations from/into English-Azerbaijani of the
materials received from HQs (UN SG's messages, op-ed etc.) and vice versa;
" Prepares summaries of all UN related articles printed in Azerbaijani
media for the attention of HQs;
" Arranges timely dissemination of the press releases and other DPI materials
among the local media contacts;
" Assists in preparing the bi-monthly activities reports (BAR) and other
ad-hoc reports to be submitted to HQs;
" Assists in arranging the monthly UNCG meetings and prepare all relevant
materials;
" Coordinates the distribution of print and audio-visual materials;
" Provides general office assistance;
" Maintains the office file system;
" Drafts responses to public inquires;
" Maintains and personally updates DPI website, as is necessary;
" Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
" Graduate degree in social sciences, with a focus on information/languages
considered an asset;
" Three to five years of relevant professional experience;
" Experience working with media;
" Excellent analytical, research, writing and communication skills;
" Fluent (written and spoken) in English and Azerbaijani;
" Previous employment experience with international organisations or government
agencies is an asset;
" Computer skills (Windows programs, MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point, e-mail,
Internet).
