In January 1998, Mercy Corps began implementation of the USAID funded
six-year $45 million Azerbaijan Humanitarian Assistance Program (AHAP). The
AHAP is designed to increase community development efforts to integrate, resettle
and provide economic opportunities and health care to IDPs and conflict-affected
population within Azerbaijan.
Under AHAP seven U.S based organizations including Adventist Development and
Relief Agency, CHF International, International Rescue Committee, International
Medical Corps, Pathfinder International, Save the Children Federation and World
Vision International implement community based projects in primary health care,
credit and business development services and community development in over 23
cities and rayons of Azerbaijan.
Mercy Corps' role as umbrella grant manager is to facilitate excellence in
programming via its four value added services that are Strategic Direction,
Information&Coordination, Technical Assistance and Oversight. Mercy Corps
subgrants are operating in the AHAP Health, Economic Opportunities, Community
Development and Social Investment Initiatives sectors.
