Repatriation under the auspices of the ICRC
Today, Saturday November 3rd, upon the request of the authorities concerned,
the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has assisted in the repatriation
of three Azeris, all civilians, from Armenia to Azerbaijan, and of one Armenian
military serviceman from Azerbaijan to Armenia. Before their hand-over, all
four confirmed to the ICRC delegates their wish to be repatriated.
The repatriation took place in the Gazakh region, with the full co-operation
of the Azerbaijani and Armenian authorities.
The ICRC, in conformity with its mandate, has assisted the authorities in organising
repatriations in the region since 1992. It stands ready to provide support to
any such operation.
