ICRC CONDUCT TRAINING SEMINAR FOR POLICE OFFICERS
Baku (ICRC) - The five-day seminar for 15 officers of national police forces,
organized by the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross
(ICRC) in Azerbaijan in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of
Azerbaijan, opens today 2nd June 2003 in Baku.
The ICRC expects that this event will give a good opportunity for the police
officers from education and training, operational, and legal departments to
get acquainted with the rules and principles of International Humanitarian Law
and International Human Rights Law, as well as the ICRC and its activities.
The seminar, run by ICRC police and armed forces experts, also deals with such
topics as law enforcement, ethical and legal police conduct, maintaining public
order, and vulnerable groups in society, with particular emphasis on women and
In accordance to its mandate, all over the world the ICRC works to ensure that
police and security forces receive systematic training in humanitarian law,
human rights and universal humanitarian principles.
