 Press release - Local NGOs Umid and Simurg implement the Public Education and Outreach Programme (UMID SSD PU)

Local NGOs Umid and Simurg implement the Public Education and Outreach Programme under the financial support of USAID and a line of World Learning in order to make more active the participation of civil society in the State Programme on Poverty Reduction and Economic Development.

This programme will be carried out in 7 regions of the Republic through Town Hall Meetings.

Guba - 01-02 July
Nakhchivan - 24-25 July
Sheki- 14-15 August
Masalli - 04-05 September
Shamakhi - 18-19 September
Ganja - 02-03 October
Ali Bayramli - 06-07 November

The goals of the Program:

  • Raise awareness of civil society, representatives of local governmental agencies and private sector about principles, implementation mechanism, implementation status of State Program on Poverty Reduction and Economic Development (SPPRED), as well as the role of governmental and donor agencies;
  • Promote more active participation of citizens, representatives of local governmental agencies and private sector through identifying their position in SPPRED implementation process.

Training objectives:

  1. Provide participants with information on SPPRED and its implementation mechanism, raise their awareness;
  2. Clarify civil society's participation status through identifying their position in SPPRED implementation;
  3. Develop relations between the people and SPPRED officials;
  4. Arrange joint discussions of the people with governmental officials;
  5. Support a development of democratic principles in Azerbaijan through THM;
  6. Enable the people to make suggestions on poverty reduction;
  7. Promote the participation of the people in finding out potential solution ways of poverty and development related problems, encountered by the population of the region and identification of existing resources;
  8. Capacity building of the people on information sharing;
  9. Increase a responsibility of governmental officials for needs identified by citizens and suggestions on ways of their provision;
  10. Enable citizens to express their opinion, ideas and attitudes on poverty reduction independently and clearly;
  11. Develop mutual understanding and cooperation among population of different regions on poverty and poverty reduction;
  12. Develop a cooperation among national and international NGOs, as well as other parties taking part in SPPRED implementation;
  13. Provide GoA officials with useful suggestions on SPPRED implementation using knowledge and information of regional THM participants received through training.
