Gender Project Outcomes
At the beginning of the project the main goal was to direct the public opinion
against the violence against women, by means of Mass Media and to give incentive
to the, newly established in Azerbaijan, movement for the gender equality.
To raise the problem and the project to the level of public opinion AYLU applied
various types of activities. By means of these activities, mass-cultural measures,
contacts with Mass Media, joint official measures with NGOs and Governmental
Bodies, enlightenment programs, joint activity of various sectors of society
by means of TV debates and electronically aids, attraction of volunteers and
other activities AYLU tried to form public opinion among various strata of society.
During the project AYLU created conditions for the joint discussion of the
problem, by means of collaboration with NGOs and State bodies.
In sphere of formation of public opinion, representatives of foreign and international
organizations, emphasizing the importance of the gender issues in Azerbaijan,
noticed that they will determine their priority directions. For example, one
of those organizations is American Bar Association Central and Eastern European
Law Initiative (ABA CEELI), joined the process of the project implementation
and organized the conference within the project. Representatives of Mass Media,
NGOs, state bodies and other organizations participated on the conference. On
the conference with the initiative of ABA CEELI the problem of Domestic Violence
was considered and the working group was created for preparation of the proposals
in this sphere. This working group by cooperating with international organizations
will build their activity in collaboration with government in resolving existing
problems and elaboration of the legislation in this sphere.
Head of the Women Aid International Ms. Pida Ripley promised to visit Azerbaijan
in the first months of the new year and offered to discuss new forms of regional
cooperation.
With the purpose of developing the forms of regional cooperation, wide contacts
are made with the NGOs and representatives of Mass Media, and experience exchange
was conducted. The campaign conducted in Azerbaijan by means of Georgian Mass
Media was brought to the attention of Georgian society. Experience exchange
by means of widening the regional cooperation and comparison of legislations,
NGOs of both States for this year is planned.
During the project in the head office and regional offices of AYLU 42 person
got free legal consulting on family and marriage issues and via the Khachmaz,
Lenkoran, Sheki and Ganja, with the purpose of conducting enlightenment activities,
the published materials and other visual aids were distributed.

The outcomes of survey, conducted among the various age categories of society,
showed that conduction of such campaigns create good conditions for the formation
of public opinion, makes people one more to think about this problem. Conduction
of mass activities contributes the formation of new ideas among people and their
realization in new form.
At the result of conducted actions more than 100 young peoples put on White
Ribbons (symbolizing the protest of men against the violence against women)
and spread the information about the Campaign. As a result the White Ribbons
became one of the symbols of the Campaign. The population joined the campaign
and thus expressed their protest against violence against women.
Various materials were published within the project (in general 7200 issues).
And these materials were distributed among population, and formed the public
opinion as well as provided legal enlightenment.

As it is seen from the short statistic figures, the project was dedicated to
the formation of public opinion.
1) 10 training-seminars were conducted in the office of AYLU. Generally 171
persons participated. 81 of which were women, 90 - men.
