Vacancy: Geotechnical engineer

Project duration: National expert (3 person month)

Requirements:

 

• A university degree in engineering or a related field;

• At least 7 years of experience in geotechnical design and construction

 

Specifically, the specialist will:

1. carry out (organize and oversee) a comprehensive review of foundation conditions at all type of hydraulic structures; carry out a geotechnical assessment of soils, particularly where these are known to be difficult, for example being very light (sandy), or alternatively heavy and exhibiting swelling/shrinking properties;
2. prepare geotechnical design criteria and advise in measure to ensure stability of canals/embankments and of structures. For structures, an assessment of foundation designs/bearing capacity, etc. is required. Also, recommendations should be made for (earthen) design loading on structures, particularly for retaining walls;
3. guide and supervise geotechnical investigations, drilling, sampling and testing services to ensure compliance with best geotechnical practice;
4. prepare relevant reports of quality standard to document findings as well as provide relevant contributions to representative project feasibility studies; and
5. undertake other tasks as deemed necessary by the team leader.
